8 Tough Quotes That Made My Life Better

Here are 8 tough quotes that made my life better:

The thing you’re afraid of is the same thing that will set you free.—Mark Manson

This was a tough one to realize.

I had to face the fact that a large portion of the discomfort I felt was created by a few things I was ignoring.

Looking at them was even more uncomfortable, but only for a short while. After that, things got a lot better.

What you avoid controls you. Usually the thing that scares you the most is the thing that you need the most to face to move forward.—Alex Hormozi

This is a similar quote to the first one. I often need to hear the same thing multiple times to have it really sink in.

But I think it’s true:

The toughest obstacles deliver the greatest rewards.

If you’re not pissing off 10 percent of the people online, your point isn’t strong enough.—James Smith

This completely changed the way I thought about how I interacted with the world.

I subconsciously thought that people reacting negatively to me is something bad. Always. No matter the people or the circumstance.

Which is obviously nonsense.

This quote made me go, “Huh, so, not only is it not terrible to upset people, you actually should upset people some of the time? Holy moly.”

The only way to feel better about yourself is to do things worth feeling good about.—Mark Manson

Another one of those statements that just flips things upside down.

From, “Why do I feel so terrible all the time?” to “Well, what do I have to feel good about?”

To which the answer was, “Damn. Not as much as I thought. I guess that’s something I can work on.”

Rough. But very helpful.

Modern man can’t see God because he doesn’t look low enough.—Carl Jung

This is a quote Jordan Peterson used as to why many people are miserable. He used the example of someone who is unhappy in a very messy and dirty room.

This person doesn’t want to be unhappy, BUT he thinks cleaning his room and picking up dirty things is beneath him.

And that’s what Jung meant by “not looking low enough.” People aren’t willing to start where they should start (which might be to clean your room). Which is why they won’t get to where they want to go.

The line separating good and evil passes not through states, nor between classes, nor between political parties either – but right through every human heart – and through all human hearts.—Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

It’s often easier to look at things black or white. Good or evil.

He’s good. That’s bad. This is right, and that’s wrong.

But in bad things, there can be good. And good things can have unfortunate consequences.

Eventually you’ll realize that it is better to be disliked for who you are than liked for who you are not. Then everything will change.—Mark Manson

Uff. That was not how I was acting.

I wanted everyone to like me. What could be wrong with that?

Well, if it leads to me trying to be something I’m not, a lot can be wrong with that.

But I didn’t realize it (or didn’t want to).

We cannot change anything until we accept it. Condemnation doesn’t liberate, it oppresses.—Carl Jung

This has been a tough pill to swallow.

I have tried many times to change something without first accepting it.

And many times I have failed.

Once again, it seems the difficult path is the one that brings freedom.
